Bloemfontein - The Greater Bloemfontein Taxi Association is still locked in meetings to try and find a solution to the ongoing woes at the new taxi rank in the Bloemfontein CBD.
GBTA Secretary Oupa Mofokeng says the majority of routes are supposed to be operating from inside the rank, with the Turflaagte and Heidedal routes operating from the old loading zones outside the facility today and tomorrow. Commuters were left stranded in town on Friday afternoon after frustrated taxi drivers barricaded roads around the rank and refused to transport passengers. Interstate Bus Lines, which has a ranking facility at Central Park, was also unable to operate according to schedule because of the barricades.
Interstate spokesperson Thando Lepele says bus drivers had to load passengers at an alternative place, which is about 1km from the normal bus stops. She is not sure if things will run smoothly this afternoon but says Interstate will attempt to communicate changes to its service through the Public Address System at Central Park and via SMS to passengers if necessary.
