Bloemfontein - More than 3 200 councillors nationally have begun with the Integrated Councillor Induction Programme (ICID) with more than 2 200 expected to take part this week.
The induction programme is a Salga partnership with Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and seeks to ensure that councillors are well prepared for the duties that lie ahead of them.
Executive Director for Municipal Institutional Development, Rio Nolutshungu, says the programme ensures that councillors are able to provide services to their municipalities while maintaining open communication channels with other councillors.
“Even that instrument of information management is also going to be useful in creating on-going conversation with councillors. So those councillors that have good work experience can relate that good work to other councillors in other municipalities, so that we create an online community of councillors around the country,“ Nolutshungu adds.
