Knysna - Child rights activists are hoping for a lengthy prison term for a Plettenberg Bay computer engineer accused of having links to an international baby porn network.

The 38-year-old man, William Beale, pleaded guilty today to more than 18 thousand charges of the possession and distribution of child pornography when he appeared in the Knysna Regional Court.

He was arrested in Plett in January 13, 2015, as part of an international police operation called Cloud Nine.

His involvement in the paedophile network was first picked up by Belgian police and he was the first of hundreds of suspects to be arrested both in South Africa and abroad.

Miranda Friedman from Women and Men Against Child abuse, says she hopes Beale will get a serious sentence.
