#ANCYL calls for scrapping of work experience─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 10:38 Sun, 17 Dec 2017
Johannesburg - In an effort to fight high unemployment among graduates, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) wants work experience to be scrapped as a requirement for entry level positions in both public and private sectors.
ANCYL President, Collen Maine, said this to the SABC at the ANC’s 54th conference in Johannesburg today.
The rate of unemployed graduates was one of many issues that included free tertiary education that Maine mentioned concerned the youth league.
"You go to school and get the degree. However, because you don’t have the experience, you end up sitting at home, without a job, says Maine.
He also said the youth league wants 40% of all economic opportunities to be specifically set aside for young people and that they want to see 40% of the leadership positions in legislatures and councils to be made available to the youth.
Maine’s comments come on the back of President Jacob Zuma’s surprise announcement yesterday, that government would introduce free tertiary education for students from poor and working-class homes.
