MEC appeals for help finding #Esidimeni missing─── 06:00 Thu, 08 Nov 2018
The Gauteng Health Department is calling on the public to help find missing Life Esidimeni patients.
It says poor record-keeping is making the task difficult.
21 mentally ill patients are still missing.
They were among those discharged from Life Esidimeni facilities between 2015 and 2016.
Dr Kobie Marais, the acting-head for the Gauteng Mental Health Directorate, said: "All the health departments were sitting together and looking at the mistakes that were made.
"We have an action plan and this will never, never happen again in our lives.
"The poor recordkeeping was actually only whilst the project was happening," said Marais.
"It was so much in a rush that records really got lost, the information about every patient."
"This will never happen again, I think politicians and the departments of health have all learned from this mistake as well as the functional staff members, the healthcare professionals."
