Whale carcass watch at Wilderness - Port Alfred beaches reopened | News Article

Authorities remain on high alert for any shark activity following the removal of a whale carcass on Wilderness beach on Saturday.

The George municipality says that all beaches from Leentjiesklip to Kleinkranz had been reopened as of 8:30 on Sunday morning.

However, Leentjiesklip Beach was closed again about 20 minutes later following a shark-sighting.

Lifeguards on duty will advise when the beach is reopened for swimming.

Beachgoers are requested to report any sightings to Lifeguards on duty and to adhere to any precautionary instructions given to stay out of the water.

Meanwhile: the Ndlambe Municipality in the Eastern Cape reports that all beaches at Port Alfred have been re-opened following a shark-sighting.

All swimming beaches at Port Alfred, including East Beach and Kelly's Blue Flag beach were closed late on Friday after a shark, believed to be a Great White, was spotted behind the breakers off West Beach.

The Ndlambe Municipal manager has confirmed that the beaches are now open again.

He warned, however, that Port Alfred's West beach is a non-swimming beach due to dangerous currents in that area.
