Department continues to distribute drought aid feed | News Article

Pretoria - Good progress is being made with the delivery of feed purchased with the R212 million made available by treasury for drought relief.

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said in a statement this amount was exclusively to be used for livestock feed. It says more than R160 million has been spent on drought pellets, lucerne bales and molasses, with nearly a half-a-million bags of feed delivered to various provinces.

The Northern Cape received its first feed consignment in Kenhardt this week. Registered farmers will receive directions from district managers on when and where to go and collect their share.

The Department says the recent rains have resulted in noticeable improvements to vegetation in most provinces. It says it will also continue to engage with relevant stakeholders in finding appropriate solutions for the disaster.
