Bheki Cele to host Youth in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Awards─── 13:30 Fri, 23 Jun 2017
Bloemfontein - Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Bheki Cele, will host an award ceremony today to honour youth members in these sectors in Pretoria.
This is the second annual Youth in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Awards. According to the deputy minister’s spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane, the awards will benefit those young people who are farmers, producers, processors and entrepreneurs in these three sectors.
“You must be a small holding farmer at the level of at least producing primary production or agro-processing, and be able to run a profitable business. It must be convincingly at a level where adjudicators can see that this is what they can recognise and be in the three sectors,” explains Phokane.
The agricultural sector has become the biggest in the country, says Phokane. “The biggest job creator and contributor, as far as the economy is concerned, is the field of agriculture,” she continues.
