DA welcomes Eskom's proposal for Maluti-a-Phofung─── 13:13 Fri, 15 Jan 2021
The Democratic Alliance welcomes Eskom's proposal to manage the electricity affairs of the Maluti-a-Phofung (MaP) municipality.
DA spokesperson, Leona Kleynhans, tells OFM News that the municipality has been subpoenaed more than 14 times but has yet to settle its R5.57 billion debt owed to Eskom. Kleynhans adds that the 113 biggest electricity users have to pay their bills directly to Eskom as per court agreement.
Moreover, the implementation of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) has the potential to promote investment and job creation, says Kleynhans.
According to Kleynhans, implementing SEZ’S allowed the Western Cape to boost local economies and job creation which is something that has eluded the Free State, based on the conditions of the MaP municipality.
DA spokesperson Leona Kleynhans says it remains to be seen whether the ANC council will accept this opportunity to rescue the municipality.
