The Northern Cape Department of Education confirms it has concluded its marking process at four marking centres in Kimberley despite six markers having tested positive for Covid-19.

Spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, say traced contacts were isolated and subjected to testing. He says whilst they anticipated this would have a direct impact on the completion of marking scripts, the department is pleased to announce that markers managed to finish on schedule.

Van der Merwe tells OFM News the department has taken all measures to ensure that all marking centres adhered to the Covid-19 regulations and guidelines.

He confirms a total of 231 661 answer scripts were marked by 759 markers, 166 senior markers, 22 deputy chief markers, 47 chief markers and 47 internal moderators.

Van der Merwe says the province awaits the National Senior Certificate Examinations results, set to be released on February 22, with high hopes that the class of 2020 performed well.

He has extended the department’s gratitude towards all markers and personnel from the Health Department for services provided to all schools and Marking Centres in efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
