Elderly couple attacked, one killed | News Article

Three gun-wielding men are at large following a house robbery and murder in Oranjeville in Strydom Street near Deneysville in the Free State.

Provincial police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says the police have launched a manhunt for these three suspects after a 68-year-old man was fatally stabbed at his house on Friday morning.

She says the 68-year-old man with his 67-year-old wife were sleeping when the suspects, armed with guns, entered the house and demanded money from the elderly couple.

The husband was stabbed four times during a tussle with one of the suspects.

The suspects are said to have taken an undisclosed amount of money from the victim's safe and also two pistols after forcing the wife to a safe in a garage.

Mbambo says the husband was declared dead at the scene.

"One of the suspects was allegedly standing near the bedroom door, whilst the other two were on both sides of the bed. The deceased's hands and feet were then tied and he was left on the ground.  The suspects then threatened and demanded money from the wife (67) who took them to the garage where the safe was," she adds.

Upon opening the safe, the suspects were not satisfied with the amount of money they found and took the husband’s firearm which was also in the safe.

"After failing to get more money from the wife, they went further and took the second firearm which was in another safe in the house. They then tied her hands and feet and left her on the bed. She managed to untie herself and called for help," Mbambo adds.

The suspects are said to have fled the scene with the victim's VW Polo with registration number HGX 515 FS.

The police have urged anyone with information to call the Station Commander, Captain Patience Mahlatsi, at 082 465 3012/ Detective Constable Motloung at 073 982 8902 / 016 974 6841.

"They can also call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, alternatively send information via MySAPS App," Mbambo further adds.
