FS man in court for defrauding SARS─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:08 Sat, 23 Jan 2021
A 40-year-old Free State man is expected to stand trial for defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS) of R1.7 million.
The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Christopher Singo, says Motseki Godfrey Leine recently appeared in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on charges of fraud. Singo adds that the suspect is out on R5 000 bail.
His case was postponed to 22 February 2021 for a trial date.
Singo says Leine is alleged to have submitted false tax returns from the period of 2014 to 2018.
The alleged fraudster was nabbed following a preliminary probe by SARS which reported the matter to the Hawks in November 2019.
