#CycloneEloise: Eskom says contingency plans are in place─── 13:00 Sat, 23 Jan 2021
Eskom says contingency plans are in place to ensure minimal disruption and continuous supply of power, as Cyclone Eloise may hit the eastern and northern parts of South Africa over the weekend.
Transmission lines that import 1,000 megawatts of power from Mozambique into SA are expected to be affected.
Heavy rainfall and storms will hit most parts of Mpumalanga, where most of the power utility's stations are situated.
Meanwhile, SA, Eswatini and Malawi have issued warnings of heavy downpours and strong winds.
Eloise dropped over 300mm of rain over Madagascar in just 36 hours.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has already placed disaster management teams on high alert and communities are warned to expect severe weather.
