The body of a student, Klarissa Joubert (19), who went missing after an accident in the Orange River near Orania in the Northern Cape, has been recovered.

Police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, says members of the South African Police Services' (SAPS) Search and Rescue Team recovered the body of the 19-year-old girl just after 12 on Monday.

Tawana says the girl went missing on Thursday 21 January 2021 after a water tube she and her friends were riding on in the river, overturned and she lost her grip.

The SAPS' Search and Rescue Team were deployed, and alongside Orania's official security groups, OraniaMED24, Orania Security Services, official town representatives, farmers, friends from Ermelo and other external roleplayers and volunteers, they searched for the girl.

The funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
