FS officer probed for assaulting blind woman─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:53 Tue, 16 Feb 2021
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is probing a Free State police officer who allegedly assaulted a 46-year-old blind woman in Phuthaditjhaba.
Ipid spokesperson, Ndileka Cola, says the officer is alleged to have slapped the woman numerous times in the face. She says according to information, the assault incident occurred when the officers went to the alleged victim's place of residence to arrest two people said to have transgressed the law.
The blind woman apparently heard her 32-year-old sister screaming and crying and upon interrogation, the woman was assaulted by the officer.
Cola says the victim then requested her daughter to capture the alleged assault. “She allegedly requested her 21-year-old daughter to record the assault on video, that’s when the police officer who was just standing outside opened the burglar gate and slapped her in the face numerous times.
Another 25-year-old person was allegedly assaulted by the same police officers when he questioned them about what they were doing within the same yard. IPID continues with the investigation process,” Cola adds.
