The North West Department of Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, welcomes an additional 5 360 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine delivered to the province.

The departmental spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says the acquisition of these vaccines increases the momentum of the province's vaccine drive which is progressing well. Lekgethwane tells OFM News another three vaccination sites have been activated, bringing the total number of operating vaccination sites to five. Furthermore, he adds that as of Monday a total of 7 517 health professionals have been vaccinated.

“Registration also progressed well. A total of 34 152 people have already registered for vaccinations in the province,” says Lekgethwane.

Another 2 600 vaccine doses arrived on Sunday. Next week we will have another 2 760 doses. We started in Rustenburg and then in Klerksdorp. We move from the hotspots and then we go to other areas where we need to quickly contain the spread.”

Lekgethwane goes on to say that Sambatha announced the activation of additional vaccination sites and that the first batch of vaccines was only administered at the Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital in Rustenburg and the Klerksdorp Hospital.

“The Department continues to encourage adherence to all prevention measures against COVID-19. Vaccination is only one of the measures used to curb the spread of the virus. It does not replace social distancing, wearing masks and sanitising,” concludes Lekgethwane.
