A suspected case of Covid-19 has delayed court proceedings between the state and Mackenzie Ratselane, accused of stabbing his wife, Dimakatso Ratselane, a news presenter at the SABC in the Free State.

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Phaladi Shuping tells OFM News that the state has received correspondence that there was a suspected case of Covid-19 where Mackenzie is being held while awaiting trial. He says the matter was then postponed, in his absentia, to Wednesday 24 March in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court and will be held virtually.

Phaladi says the case is likely to be transferred to the regional court in Bloemfontein. During his last appearance, Mackenzie who’s facing charges ranging from attempted murder, kidnapping, and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, abandoned his bail application.

OFM News understands that the facility is currently under a precautionary lockdown where a massive screening process is taking place.

The state said he could be slapped with an additional charge. State prosecutor, Sello Matlhoko, previously informed the Magistrate that the state was trying to solicit three statements and a ballistic report.

Mackenzie was arrested in Ennerdale in Gauteng. His arrest came after Dimakatso was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds in Bloemfontein. Mackenzie and Dimakatso are said to have quarrelled on their way to fetch their children in Phase 2. She was later found by friends and residents in the Dinaweng area near a popular tavern and was subsequently sent to Pelonomi Netcare Hospital.
