Stock theft a concern in Central SA─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 13:11 Wed, 14 Apr 2021
Four stock theft suspects in the Northern Cape are soon expected to appear in court following their arrest on Monday.
The police’s Omphile Masegela says the suspects were arrested in Kenhardt with a total of 30 sheep to the value of R87 000.
The group was arrested following a tip-off about an alleged vehicle transporting suspected stolen sheep in the same area.
Masegela says the stolen property has been identified by the rightful owner and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was confiscated for further investigations. The police in the province have meanwhile sent a stern warning against stock theft and other acts of criminality in the province.
The arrest of the suspects in the Northern Cape also comes just weeks after OFM News reported on how the Police, Roads and Transport MEC in the neighbouring Free State sent a stern warning against escalating farm attacks and stock theft in the province.
MEC Sam Mashinini said there is growing concern over stock theft and cross border crime in the Free State and they will be prioritising rural safety in the current fiscal year.
