1 SA Tank Regiment held a farewell parade for the outgoing Commanding Officer on Friday 30 April 2021.

The event was held in the Big Willie Auditorium at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein.

Lieutenant Colonel Phumzile Shingange, who joined the army in 1998, handed over her commanding rank, because she decided it was now time to move on and seek a new challenge. “I requested to be handed a more challenging position, as I now thought that I have fulfilled the objectives of the current position and I felt that I have reached my potential. It’s time for me to move on, go make a difference, learn more and command more in high quarters, said Shingange.

Shingange has been the Commanding Officer of 1 SA Tank Regiment for the past three years.

Shingange handed over command to Lieutenant Colonel Heidi Dalton, who is expected to fill the shoes of Shingange. Dalton, who also joined the defence force in 1998, did all her rounds of appointments in all the units in Bloemfontein before she was sent to Pretoria.

“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity that was granted to me, because not every person in the military will have such an opportunity to become a commanding officer of a unit.” Dalton said she cannot say how happy she is to be afforded such an opportunity in her career.
