Seven NC police stations crime hotspots | News Article

Seven police stations in the Northern Cape have had a considerable number of cases reported, despite the province recording a significant reduction in the major categories.

Kuruman, Postmasburg, Kakamas, Pabalelo, Sunrise, Carnavon, and Richmond all recorded an increase in the number of crimes committed in the fourth quarter of the 2020/21 financial year.

According to the acting Police Commissioner, Henriëtte de Waal, Kuruman recorded an increase of 19 more cases, Postmasburg 4 cases, Kakamas 42 cases with Pabalelo, Sunrise and Carnarvon and Richmond all recording a varying number of cases. Meanwhile, De Waal also announced the stations in major towns in the province, including Kimberley, Galeshewe, and Upington, all recorded a decrease in the number of serious crimes for the fourth-quarter period.

“Kimberley had a decrease of 548 cases and what contributed also to this was the continuous hard work of all our members over this period, especially in January and February where the members worked 12-hour shifts to curb the crime level, specifically during the lockdown period,” she adds.

She says the increase in the number of crime at Kakamas during this quarter is due to the seasonal workers who go to the area.

De Waal on Thursday announced that the provincial crime stats highlighted a decrease in the number of sexual offences and murders cases across the province during this financial year. She revealed that the province recorded a decrease of 2 cases in terms of murder and 77 cases in terms of sexual assaults, compared to the same period in the last financial year. De Waal announced that the province had a drop of 46 cases of common robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances decreased with 46 cases, and the province also recorded a drop of 430 cases in terms of contact crimes.
