AA laments lack of communication on implementation of Aarto─── 12:13 Fri, 18 Jun 2021
The Automobile Association (AA) says the lack of communication from the Department of Transport on the implementation of Aarto is causing confusion among motorists.
The planned roll-out of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) is set to be implemented on 1 July.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard believes the Department of Transport should start communicating with the public on the details of Aarto.
"Communication on the rollout of Aarto appears to be happening in the media, with the department of transport not speaking at all in recent weeks.
"All of this is causing huge confusion among motorists throughout the country, who are unsure if the legislation is coming into force next month.
"It is upon government, especially the Department of Transport, to inform the public; what exactly is happening with the rollout of Aarto and how it will impact them on the 1st of July.”
He adds the department must also inform the public on the other phases of the Aarto and when it would be implemented.
