AA admits concern over latest fuel price spike

AA admits concern over latest fuel price spike | News Article

The Automobile Association (AA) says it’s very concerned about the possible impact of the latest fuel price hikes that came into effect at midnight.

Fuel prices reached record highs in August with both grades of petrol increasing by 91.00 cents a litre, while the price of a litre of diesel will go up by up to 55.58 c/l .

“In Gauteng, we are looking at a record high of R18.30 a litre which is incredibly worrying for the AA considering the current economic conditions. We haven’t had a look at the numbers going into August yet but certainly looking forward to this is a very concerning trend for us,” says AA spokesperson, Layton Beard.

August's fuel price increases have been attributed to the rise in crude oil prices, coupled with the depreciation of the rand on average against the US Dollar.

A new levy of 6.58 cents has also come been implemented in line with the Self-Adjusting Slate Mechanism rules effective from the 4th of August.

The AA says the impact of higher fuel prices will not only be on motorists, but all South African consumers.
