Family of seven happy after flushable pit toilet donation | News Article

The Bloemfontein family of seven near the Caleb Motshabi informal settlement, which struggled with issues of sanitation for the past few months, were smiling from ear to ear after a good Samaritan donated a flushable pit toilet.

The family has expressed gratitude and sincere appreciation to Amalooloo, a privately owned company, who completed the toilet in a short space of two days after commencing with groundwork on Tuesday afternoon.

Amalooloo officially handed over the toilet on Wednesday and fulfilled the promise previously made to the family.

The 58-year-old Mamokete Segalo, who walks with the assistance of crutches due to a gunshot wound, says the toilet means a lot to the family following months without a formal structure of a toilet.

OFM News previously reported that the family, which is situated alongside Caleb Motshabi flood victims, were forced to use a nearby open space. The nine families eho had to be relocated here after the floods, also do not have toilets.

The company reacted to a news story written by OFM News on the living conditions of the 58-year-old Segalo, her 71-year-old relative, daughter, and four grandchildren who were struggling because of sanitation issues.

Amalooloo, with branches in Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and the neighbouring country of Lesotho, tackles and addresses sanitation issues amongst the vulnerable within society.

The 58-year-old Segalo and her family also struggle without electricity. To make matters worse, one of her grandchildren suffers from epilepsy.
