Uncertainty may lead to more illegal initiation schools – Contralesa─── 06:43 Fri, 17 Sep 2021
Not addressing whether initiation schools will be allowed to operate this coming festive season may lead to more illegal ones.
This is according to the chairperson of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa), Mothupi Mokwena.
Mokwena and Contralesa were anticipating a promising announcement from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Contralesa feels that the government is undermining their culture and heritage. Mokwena feels initiation schools should have been opened when the country moved to Covid-19 alert level 2.
This is the second year that initiation schools are not allowed to operate due to pandemic.
Dieke Mokoena, the initiation schools committee chairperson in the Thabo Mofutsanayana district, agrees with this sentiment.
