Jobs provided for families of drowning victims─── 06:49 Fri, 17 Sep 2021
The families of drowning victims in Qwaqwa have been guaranteed jobs at the new water testing laboratory just set up by the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality.
The municipality and the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thembeni Nxangiza, made the decision.
Most victims drowned in 2020 while struggling to fetch water in rivers.
The residents of Qwaqwa are struggling due to a lack of proper water supply.
Executive mayor, Masetjhaba Mosia-Lakaje, pledged that the families of those who lost their loved ones while attempting to fetch water at rivers, will be employed in the water testing laboratory.
"We have decided to do something for the families who have lost their loved ones during the drought. We are going to ensure that we employ them permanently, for them to put bread on the table once the project is officially in operation," says Mosia-Lakaje.
