The Mangaung Metro Municipality has launched a fleet of modern buses that are aimed at making life easier for its residents.

The Integrated Public Network Transport's (IPTN) unit head, Steve Rapulungoane, says the city has bought ten buses that will be used by public taxi operators. Brandwag taxi operators will start using these buses following an agreement between the  municipality, taxi association and the bus company, Interstate Bus Lines (IBL) .

“We are saying this is an improved service because for the first time the [buses replacing the] taxis will be subsidised, people who are living with disabilities will be able to use the bus. As you enter the bus, the bus will release a disc onto which a person in a wheelchair can roll his chair onto and be assisted onto the bus,” he adds.

Rapulungoane says that the bus will be using twenty-nine stops, as they are trying to cater for working and disabled people, so that they don’t walk long distances to get to the bus stops. He added that they will improve the bus stops as well and make them universal to make it easier for disabled people. Rapulungoane further adds that the price of the bus from the CBD to Brandwag will cost R11, and tickets will also be available for passengers on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the preference.
