Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, is tight-lipped on the incident only confirming that Tshepo Mphokela’s lifeless body was found by police in Nomzamo Park on Tuesday evening. It appeared he had sustained a serious head injury after being run over by the truck. Mphokela was surrounded by other community members when police arrived at the scene. A case of culpable homicide has since been opened. One Brandfort local has shed some light on the incident.

The anonymous source says Mphokela was part of a group of teen boys who were trying to get onto the back of the truck whilst it was moving. The fun turned tragic when the teenager fell and the truck ran him over, crushing his head. It’s alleged the water truck belonged to the local municipality and did not stop after the incident. This latter detail is not confirmed by the police.
