Ballito Rage kicks off despite #Covid19 fears

Ballito Rage kicks off despite #Covid19 fears | News Article

Organisers of the Ballito Rage say this year's edition of the matric party festival is going ahead, with events kicking off on Tuesday.

This despite President Cyril Ramaphosa calling for more caution. He recommended on Sunday that events like year-end functions and matric raves be postponed, as the country monitors a rise in coronavirus infections again.

The annual rage draws thousands of school-leavers from KZN and other parts of the country, who flock to Ballito, north of Durban, to celebrate the end of their high school careers.

The music and dance festival will run for five days.

According to the organisers, strict Covid-19 safety rules are being applied.

Those who haven't taken the coronavirus vaccine won't be allowed in.

And those waiting to get their second jab will need to get proof of a negative PCR lab certificate that's not older than 48 hours.

The organisers say all staff members have been required to do the same.

This year, tickets for the event have been limited to under 2 000 attendees a night as per government's Covid-19 regulations.

Last year's rage turned into a super-spreader event, with 848 people contracting the virus.
