The 400m world record holder and Olympic champion Wayde van Niekerk’s season is over.
The two-time world champion arrives back in South Africa tomorrow after defending his title in London at the IAAF World Championships.
Apart from winning the 400m gold, Van Niekerk also made a huge statement in the 200m by clinching the silver in the distance.
Earlier this week the IAAF confirmed Van Niekerk as one the 18 world champions to compete in next week’s Zurich leg of the Diamond League.
The star athlete and his coach Ans Botha will be flying out of Europe tonight and will be back in South Africa tomorrow.
The three-time women's 800m world champion, Caster Semenya, and the men’s long-jump world champion, Luvo Manyonga, are also among the 18 athletes confirmed for the event in Switzerland.
