Semenya eyes 1000m South African record─── ADRIAN BOTHA 08:45 Wed, 14 Feb 2018
South Africa’s athletics golden girl, Caster Semenya, will take to the starting line of the rarely run 1000m event at the Tuks Stadium in Tshwane next month for the second of three Athletix Grand Prix meetings.
The 800m double Olympic and triple world champion has never attempted the kilometer distance but is of the opinion that she could break the record.
Reading between the lines, Semenya veiled at the posibility of a South African record attempt should she feel good ahead of the race.
If the Olympian plans on making a charge on the record she will need to clock a time quicker than 2:37.2 which was set by Ilse de Kock Wicksell in 1983.
Semenya is targeting the 1000m in Tshwane on Thursday March 8th before looking to defend her national title a week later and finally tackling the 1500m at Dal Josaphat Stadium, Paarl, on March 22.
