Another world champion to compete in SA─── ADRIAN BOTHA 08:54 Tue, 20 Feb 2018
2015 World javelin throw champion and 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medalist Julius Yego has become the latest international athlete added to a growing list of global superstars who will be competing on South African soil next month.
The Kenyan confirmed his attendance for the third and final Athletix Grand Prix Meeting that will take place at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl next month.
Although 2017 was not a good year for Yego, the much loved athlete says that he looks forward to competing on African soil.
“We are used to competing at big meetings in Europe, the States and Asia so when my agent informed me of the meeting in Paarl, I immediately jumped at the chance. To be able to compete in South Africa, on the African continent, is important to me as it helps in growing our sport,” Yego said.
Yego joins the likes of IAAF World Championship 10 000m silver medallist and fellow country man Joshua Cheptegei as well as reigning world 100m champion Justin Gatlin who will also be taking part in the series.
