The world 100m champion Justin Gatlin has arrived in South Africa and has already expressed his intentions of a competitive showing when he lines up in this weekend’s Athletix Grand Prix series in Pretoria.
Gatlin will take on South Africa’s own sprinting star, Anaso Jobodwana, in the rarely run and unusual distance of 150m.
The 2015 world championship bronze medalist Jobodwana is expected to test Gatlin who says that he will be looking to pinpoint certain aspects of his run.
"Usually we start our season off running relays and working on speed so it (the race) might be a little bit rough."
"Bigger athletes have a faster rate of turn-over or longer strides than I do and I try and rely on my technique to take over the race or stay in the race," Gatlin said.
This second Athletix Grand Prix Series event at the LC de Villiers Stadium gets underway tomorrow.
