It has been confirmed that the Olympic 400m champion and world record holder, Wayde van Niekerk, will be in action again this weekend.
Last week, Van Niekerk, who had been struggling with a recurring knee injury since October 2017, made his official return to the track during the Motheo/ Xhariep Athletics meet in Bloemfontein.
During the meet, Van Niekerk won both men’s 100m and 200m in very respectable times. In the morning he won the 200m final in a time of 20.31 sec. In the afternoon season, Van Niekerk, clocked a time of 10.10 sec to win the 100m.

This weekend though, he will be competing in the Free State Championships, and he will be running in the 400m.
He has only been entered to run the single lap distance this week. The 400m final will be run at 12:40 on Saturday afternoon.
Van Niekerk has a personal best time of 9.94 sec over the 100m, 19.84 over the 200m, and his 400m world record stands at 43.03 sec.
During the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he broke Michael Johnson’s 17-year-old world record to win the gold.
Some of the other big names confirmed for this weekend include the Paralympian, Louzanne Coetzee, and the Queen of the road, Kesa Moletsane.
