Fifty up for Van der Westhuizen─── MORGAN PIEK 15:29 Thu, 13 Jul 2017
The Tafel Lager Griquas tighthead prop, Ewald van der Westhuizen, will be playing in his 50th game when he runs out against Western Province in the final of the SuperSport Rugby challenge.
The man will enter that championship match in Ravensmead with renewed confidence after scoring an outstanding try during their 33-21 win over the Golden Lions in the semi-final.
The only change to the Peacock Blues’ team sees Koch Marx replacing the injured Kyle Steyn at outside centre.
The Griquas coach, Peter Engeldow, told OFM Sport that Van Der Westhuizen is an important part of their team.
“It’s always special when someone reaches a milestone like this, you know it’s also special for the Griquas.
“As a management team we’re very happy for him and he is very well liked between the players.
“Hopefully he can help us win the final, because that is ultimately what we would like to achieve.
“We wish him the best of luck in this special game.
Sunday’s final at Florida Park kicks off at 14:30.
