The soon to be Glasgow Warriors head coach, Dave Rennie, has welcomed the Toyota Cheetahs’ and Southern Kings’ inclusion in the expanded Pro12.

The New Zealander will be leaving the Chiefs at the conclusion of the Super Rugby.

Rennie’s side beat the Stormers 17-11 on Saturday to set up a semi-final with the Crusaders in Christchurch.

When asked about his thoughts on Super Rugby reducing the competition to 15 teams as from next year, Rennie said the Cheetahs and Kings were somewhat unlucky, but feels they should do well in Europe.

“It don’t know which Aussie side will go out, but if it’s the Force, then it will be even though they finished second in the conference.

“I think that the Kings and Cheetahs were outstanding at various times this year and got a lot of good results.

“Maybe for them to be going over the Pro12 will be good for them.

Celtic Rugby is set to make an official announcement this week regarding the Cheetahs and Kings Pro14 participation.

Both team will however not be eligible to play in the European Champions Cup or Challenge Cup.

Meanwhile, there was a suggestion that the Italian outfit, Zebre would be withdrawn from the competition. The side informed Italian Rugby of their intent to withdraw.

This led to the governing body of the sport to take charge of the team and they will still be playing in the competition, but under a new name and new management.

The new side will be called Zebre Rugby Club and will still be based in Parma.

This replaces the previous incarnation Zebre Rugby Srl and along with Treviso will be the two Italian representatives in the competition.
