The Springboks worst fears have been confirmed with regards to the knee injury Coenie Oosthuizen sustained during Saturday’s defeat to Ireland in Dublin.

Oosthuizen played for a full 1 minute and 7 seconds before being carted off the park. The tighthead prop has tore both his ACL and MCL in his knee at AVIVA Stadium, and this means that his season is over and will most likely miss the start of the Sharks 2018 Super Rugby campaign.

It’s a cruel blow for the Grey College old boy as the 38-3 defeat in Dublin was also his comeback Test after fracturing his arms against the Wallabies in Perth during the Rugby Championship.

Oosthuizen is on his way back to South Africa to receive treatment.

A further blow to the Springboks seems the versatile lock and flanker, Pieter-Steph du Toit, being ruled out for this weekend’s Test against France at Stade France.

The South African rugby player of the year sustained a concussion during the latter stages of the Test in Dublin, he has not passed the concussion protocol for this weekend.

It has been confirmed that the Toulon back-rower, Duane Vermeulen, has been called up and will be linking up with the team at their base in Paris.

It is expected that Allister Coetzee will be naming a replacement for Oosthuizen on Monday.
