Defence a priority for Springboks─── ADRIAN BOTHA 11:49 Thu, 23 Nov 2017
Securing contestable kicks and tightening up defensive systems has been placed atop Springbok coach Allistair Coetzee’s list of priorities heading into Saturday’s test match against Italy.
Much like the physical battle that is expected to be fought among the forwards, the Springboks will have to be aware of the aerial threat Italy bring to the table, something coach Coetzee has made abundantly clear to his chargers.
"One of the big step-ups we (Springboks) would like to make is how we deal with contestable kicks because every game we have conceded a try by not handling it well."
Coetzee added: "We need to work on a few aspects of our defence, the players understand that it has been good but we need to work on it especially with our width."
Coetzee will name his matchday 23 this afternoon and reports suggest that Blue Bulls fullback Warrick Galant could make his debut while the injury concerns for Eben Etzebeth and Malcolm Marx is a thing of the past.
