The Cheetahs remain wary of the Kings─── MORGAN PIEK 15:53 Mon, 15 Jan 2018
The Toyota Cheetahs remain wary of the Southern Kings despite Saturday’s 45-21 Guinness Pro14 victory at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
During the first half the Cheetahs were the better of the two teams, while the Kings showed glimpses of brilliance during the second forty minutes.
After 12 rounds the Cheetahs comfortably occupy the third place in the Conference A standings behind Glasgow Warriors and Munster, while the Kings are still winless in Conference B.
The Cheetahs coach, Rory Duncan, says the Kings will beat some teams, but they have to make sure that is not against them.
“Absolutely, I don’t think any team goes into a competition without winning and I’m sure that the Kings also had aspirations for winning when they entered the competition.
“I think that they actually have had a great season and I think that they have been unlucky in a couple of games.
“When I say a great season, I’m talking about the games that they have played at home. They have run a couple of teams relatively close in Port Elizabeth.
“The message in chatting to the players this week was that the Kings will beat teams, we’re just got to make sure that the Cheetahs aren’t one of those teams.”
Saturday’s return derby at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:00.
