The North West University Pukke want to focus on their processes this evening despite it being the big intervarsity against the University of the Free State Shimlas in Potchefstroom.

The Varsity Cup fixture between the old foes has more than bragging rights up for grabs this evening, with the third-placed Pukke targeting the top two, while Shimlas look to return to winning ways after dropping the ball against UJ.

The Pukke coach, Jonathan Mokuena, told OFM Sport that it is a big game, but they need to focus on their own game.

“For us, it’s about our processes, we know that it is going to be a difficult game.

“We don’t worry about where the Shimlas are or what they don’t have, or what they bring, we just focus on us.

“Of course we need to analyse other teams, but 80% of what we do is focussing on our own game and the rest will follow.

“It is going to be a big game and big challenge, but the Varsity Cup is a tough competition. There are no easy games in the competition, so what a challenge.”

Meanwhile, the Namibian international team has been based in Potchefstroom this week and this has afforded the lads an opportunity to rub shoulders with internationals coached by the former Welsh international prop, Phil Davies, who was previously in charge of the Cardiff Blues.

On top of that, the team trained against the Welwitchias in preparation for Monday evening’s big derby.

“Last week was quite ideal for us. It just happened to be that Namibia was in town and they needed a team to train against,” said Mokuena.

“We adjusted our week to have the best of both worlds by having opposition to train against and just to see and rub shoulders with Phil Davies, an ex-Welsh player.”

Monday evening’s game at the Fanie du Toit sports grounds kicks off at 19:00.

At 16:45 Wits host UJ in the Joburg derby, and at 18:30 the CUT Ixias are at home to Tuks and the Madibaz host Maties.
