Pukke thrash Shimlas to take 2nd─── ADRIAN BOTHA 09:04 Tue, 13 Mar 2018
The North West University Pukke have settled into the 2nd place on the Varsity Cup points table after thumping the University of the Free State Shimlas in Potchefstroom on Monday.
The Pukke ran in 8 tries for a massive 58-21 final score that also sees them in a favourable position for a home semi-final should they hang onto their log position.
A brave Central University of Technology Ixias side in their turn struggled to contain the defending champions University of Pretoria Tuks in Bloemfontein going down 26-54.
The University of Stellenbosch Maties in their turn secured a home semi-final with a 19-0 victory over the Nelson Mandela University Madibaz despite unrest off the field leading to the game being halted 8 minutes into the second half.
In the evening's other match, the University Johannesburg proved too strong a side for Wits as the visitors claimed a 29-17 victory.
Following the completion of round 7 on Monday the competition is left with just only 2 rounds of combined competition before the knockout stages commence.
