The Toyota Cheetahs are feeling upbeat about their chances of winning in the play-offs of the Guinness Pro14 early next month.

Next week the Cheetahs need just a single point out of the game against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth to ensure that they will face the Scarlets in Llanelli.

Should they upset the defending champions in Wales, they will in all likely hood face the Glasgow Warriors in the semi-finals.

The Cheetahs coach, Rory Duncan, told OFM Sport that they have a better understanding of playing in Europe now.

The last and only time these sides met, the Cheetahs beat Scarlets 28-21 in Bloemfontein.

“I believe that we have a good understanding of how to play there now”, said Duncan.

“We have four or five tours abroad behind us now, so we are not that team that went on that first tour.

“The team has matured and the team has learnt a lot of lessons.”

“It will be a case of putting everything together now because obviously we are going to be going away.

“It will all be about putting our experiences together and coming up with a good plan.”

Even if the Cheetahs lose to Kings next week, they can still qualify if they earn a bonus point in the game.

Even if the Cheetahs lose to Kings next week, they can still qualify if they earn a bonus point in the game.

The only way the Cheetahs will fail to qualify is if they lose to the Kings without a bonus point, and the Cardiff Blues thrash the Ospreys with a bonus point win and by ensuring that they finish on a better points difference that the Cheetahs. The Cheetahs have a points difference of 23 points better than Cardiff.

For example if the Cheetahs score 20 points against the Kings, Cardiff have to beat the Ospreys by 44 or more points.

Kings host the Cheetahs next Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium with kicks off at 16:00.
