The lock, Eben Etzebeth, is set for a start on Saturday when the Springboks tackle Argentina in Durban in the opening Test of the Rugby Championship.

Etzebeth, who captained the Springboks for the majority of last year, has not played any Test rugby this year, and little Super Rugby due to injury.

Furthermore, the Sharks duo of Andre Esterhuizen and Lukhanyo Am, are expected to form the centre combination against the Pumas.

The Springbok coach, Rassie Erasmus, said that he is looking to play Etzebeth for 60 minutes.

“We just received the clearance from the specialist.

“He’s been training full on with us ever since the end of the Stormers’ Super Rugby campaign, but we’ve been waiting on this.

“His match fitness is a concern and it is for that reason that we won’t see him playing much more than 60 minutes this week.

“I’d prefer to start a player who is in this situation than play him from the bench.

“If we start someone else and then there is an injury in the first minute, we might be in trouble.

Saturday’s Test at Kings’ Park in Durban kicks off at 17:05.
