The former Toyota Cheetahs hooker, Torsten van Jaarsveld, has been named in the Guinness Pro14 Dream Team for 2017/18.

Van Jaarsveld, lead the Cheetahs on a few occasions last season in the absence of Francois Venter and Neil Jordaan, who both captained the side as well.

The live-wire hooker was one of the Cheetahs leading scorers in the competition and dotted down on six occasions during his 21 appearances.

In the games against Zebre and the Ospreys in Bloemfontein, Van Jaarsveld crossed for a brace of tries.

The Dream Team was named after over 75 media personalities (including former players and coaches) were involved in the voting.

To be eligible players had to have made at least 9 appearances in the 2017/18 season.

The Cheetahs had a total of six players that were short-listed for the Dream Team, of which five were forwards. They are Van Jaarsveld, Oupa Mohoje, Ox Nche, Reniel Hugo and Uzair Cassiem. Makazole Mapimpi was the only backline player nominated.

Last season’s finalists Leinster Rugby and Scarlets dominated the voting with five players each selected.

Glasgow Warriors earned two representatives with back row Callum Gibbins nominated as the Dream Team captain and Nick Grigg winning a place in the midfield. Torsten van Jaarsveld, John Cooney and Blair Kinghorn made up the final places.

Forwards - 1 Rob Evans – Scarlets, 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld – Toyota Cheetahs, 3 Andrew Porter – Leinster Rugby, 4 Scott Fardy – Leinster Rugby, 5 Tadhg Beirne – Scarlets, 6 Aaron Shingler – Scarlets, 7 Callum Gibbins – Glasgow Warriors (captain), 8 Jack Conan – Leinster Rugby.

Backs - 9 John Cooney – Ulster Rugby, 10 Rhys Patchell – Scarlets, 11 James Lowe – Leinster Rugby, 12 Hadleigh Parkes – Scarlets, 13 Nick Grigg – Glasgow Warriors, 14 Jordan Larmour – Leinster Rugby, 15 Blair Kinghorn – Edinburgh Rugby.
