Bloemfontein Celtic have moved up one place in the Premier Soccer League standings following a well-earned win against Cape Town City FC in the Mother City on Tuesday evening.

Phunya Sele Sele stunned the then third-placed Citizens with a 1-0 win with a 67st minute Kabelo Mahlasela strike.

This win has seen Celtic climb to sixth in the standings on 12 points, while the City conceded one sport and dropped to fourth. Benni McCarthy’s charges are also on 12 points, along with the two Soweto Giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The Amakhosi in their turn claimed a full house of points with a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

The game in the capital was deadlocked at the halftime break, but five minutes into the second stanza, Siyabonga Ngezana handed the Glamour Boys the lead before Bernard Parker doubled the score some 19 minutes from time.

Themba Zwane grabbed a consolation goal for the Brazilians in the 82nd minute following a shot from the penalty spot.

Chiefs moved up from sixth to third, however, could be overtaken by the Buccaneers on Wednesday evening, should they beat the bottom-of-the-log Platinum Stars at the FNB Stadium.

A further four games will be taking place on Wednesday evening.

Chippa United are at home to Maritzburg United, Free State Stars take on Ajax Cape Town in Bethlehem, Baroka FC entertain Clinton Larsen’s Golden Arrows in Polokwane and AmaZulu are at home to Polokwane City.

Celtic will remain in the Cape this week as they return to the Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening to face the Urban Warriors, Ajax.
