#Russia2018: AM Special Report 22 June | News Article

Another day of football at the 2018 Fifa Soccer World Cup in Russia concluded last night when the Messi captained Argentinian side saw their campaign go from bad to worse following a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Southeast European country, Croatia.

This match was preceded by a 1-1 draw between Denmark and the Socceroos of Australia at the Cosmos Stadium before which Peru was eliminated from the showpiece thanks to a 1-0 loss to against France.

The soccer world’s attention now turns to the 9 matches scheduled for the weekend, the first of which is Brazil who face Costa Rica at 14:00 today.

Brazil Captain Thiago Silva in his turn believes that both teams are under unique pressures and that the match will be vital for both sides.

A triple threat of fixtures await soccer fanatics on Saturday when Belgium set their sights on a second victory and the round of 16 when they meet Tunisia in Moscow followed by the Korea Republic that will attempt to ward off a fired up Mexico.

Defending champions Germany then look to make a mends for their opening round defeat to Mexico when they clash with Sweden.

On Sunday England will look to make it 2 out of 2 against Panama while Africa’s best chance at a round of 16 berth rests on Senegal who meet Japan in the Ekaterinburg Arena.

While a rough idea of a possible Round of 16 may become a bit clearer over the weekend, a number of pools could still come down to the final round robin matches in determining qualifiers.

And given the manner in which this tournament has gone so far, it would be amiss not to say that we could see some major contenders fall dismally short.

The Question of who does however remain a mystery, for now…
