#Russia2018: AM Special Report 11 July | News Article

Be it 32 teams or only 4, the 2018 FIFA world cup continues to produce game after game of nail-biting, edge of seat football and Tuesday night was no different as France have secured a spot in the showpiece final.

The first half of Tuesday's semi-final that Le Bleus played against Belgium ended goalless but it took only 6 minutes of second half play before French defender Samuel Umtiti headed home for France giving them a 1-0 lead.

Despite their best efforts, the Red Devils could not equalise before the final whistle giving France the 1-0 green light into the final.

It is now the turn of England and Croatia to do battle for the remaining spot in the final showdown of this riveting world cup when they clash at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow.

This semi-final clash marks the end of a 20 years wait for Croatia who last reached this level of the competition at the France 1998 showpiece while England end a 28 year long as they last reached the semi-final stage at Italy 1990.

Croatia will be hoping to book a spot in their first ever World Cup final while the Three Lions have only reached the Final once before, when they lifted their sole World Cup Trophy more than half-a-century ago - on home soil in 1966.

Since then English soccer has traveled a long and winding road to find themselves on the cusp of yet another final and according to manager Gareth Southgate they hope to continue on their current trajectory.

Croatia and England get matters underway at 20:00 on Wednesday night and although both sides now know who they could potentially be facing there is 1 more hurdle to navigate…each other.
