Harris into Miami Open 2nd round─── MORGAN PIEK 09:04 Thu, 25 Mar 2021
South Africa's top-ranked men's singles tennis player, Lloyd Harris, earned the first ATP Masters 1000 level match of his career, to advance to the second round of the Miami Open.
The 24-year-old Harris beat the American qualifier, Emilio Nava, 6-4, 7-6 (8/6), to book his spot in the second round.
Harris, who is ranked 52nd in the world, would have preferred a little less resistance by the American as Nava has a career-highest ranking of 556th.
Harris did, however, save a set point at 6/7 in the second-set tiebreaker, to ensure a straight-sets victory after one hour and 32 minutes on the court.
Harris will, however, be pleased with his performance as his purple patch continues. He was meant to face the two-time Wimbledon champion and three-time Grand Slam winner, Andy Murray, of Scotland in the opening round. However, the current world number 119 was a late withdrawal due to a groin injury.
Harris will have a tough second round when he comes up against the world number 12 and 7th seed for the event, Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.
