Wayde and Akani go head-to-head in 200m─── MORGAN PIEK 08:38 Tue, 30 Mar 2021
The 400m world and Olympic champion from Bloemfontein, Wayde van Niekerk, will go head-to-head with Akani Simbine over 200m on Thursday afternoon in the second leg of the ASA Athletix Invitational Meet at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort.
Van Niekerk, who has a 200m silver medal from the 2017 World Championships will, however, be put to the test by the reigning Commonwealth Games 100m champion.
To spice up the sprint even more, Anaso Jobodwana and Luxolo Adams will also be running in the 200m.
The President of Athletics South Africa, Aleck Skhosana, is excited about the line-up assembled for the second leg of the ASA Athletix Invitational Meet.
“We have a humdinger of a race in the 200m and an overall super line-up in all events.
“The success and energy displayed in the first meeting this past Tuesday has set the tone for the 2nd leg next Tuesday.
“Next week's head-to-head line-up is already a package to behold, already boasting world-class athletes who are ready to deliver with performance.”
The 200m for men will be run at 16:00.
