Proteas sweating over Bavuma and Van der Dussen─── MORGAN PIEK 10:15 Thu, 08 Apr 2021
The Proteas are sweating over the availability of their captain Temba Bavuma and batsman, Rassie van der Dussen, ahead of the T20 International series against Pakistan.
Van der Dussen was a late withdrawal ahead of Thursday’s 3rd and decisive One-Day International at SuperSport Park.
Bavuma in his turn strained a hamstring strain during the ODI.
The Proteas coach, Mark Boucher, conceded that they are worried about the injured duo.
“Rassie is probably out for 10 days from yesterday. I'd be stupid to push him to try and play in these T20s.
“He is still staying in the squad and we hope he can have a quick turnaround but it doesn't look likely that he is going to get on the park.
“Temba is a tough guy so when you see him hobbling around and it's only got worse in the change room, the way he is walking, I think he might have done something fairly bad.
“He seems to be in pain. It doesn't look good which doesn't put us in a good position.”
The 1st T20 International will be played at the Wanderers on Saturday.
