The door is still open for the former captain, AB de Villiers, to make a return to the Proteas for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The 37-year-old De Villiers is currently in India where he is representing the Royal Challenge Bangalore in the IPL.

The Proteas coach, Mark Boucher, said that the decision will be up to De Villiers.

“I haven’t had a conversation with him of late, but I did chat to him before he went to the IPL and the conversation is still open.

“With AB being the person he is, he wanted to perform very well at the IPL to prove to himself and everyone else that he’s still very much a key figure in world cricket and can dominate at that level.

“I said to him that he must go and do his thing and I’ll give him a shout at the back end of the IPL and see where you are. So, that’s where we are with him.”

De Villiers retired from all forms of international cricket in 2018.

Meanwhile, at 14:30 on Friday afternoon the Proteas and Pakistan go head-to-head in the 4th and final T20 International at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
